How to make random teams
Wheel and Names’s random team generator splits a list of names into balanced groups. Choose a number of teams or a maximum number of people per team, then generate a randomized assignment. Every input line appears exactly once in the result.
Paste one name per line and check for duplicate names.
Choose the number of teams or maximum team size.
Create teams; sizes differ by at most one person.
Copy, download or print the result for your activity.
How the shuffle works
The tool uses the browser’s Web Crypto generator and Fisher–Yates shuffle with unbiased random integers. Shuffled names are assigned in round-robin order. It does not consider skill, age or other attributes; balanced refers to group sizes only.
Yes. The tool calculates the number of teams as the number of people divided by your size limit, rounded up. It then balances the groups so that their sizes differ by at most one person and no team exceeds your limit.
Will anyone appear in two teams?
Each input line is assigned exactly once. If the same name appears on multiple lines, it is treated as multiple people. Check the duplicate notice or remove exact duplicates before generating.
Can I keep the same teams after refreshing?
The entered list, settings and latest teams are saved in this browser’s localStorage. Clearing browser data removes them. Download a text file to keep an independent copy.
Does this make equally skilled teams?
No. This is random assignment with balanced group sizes. It does not evaluate abilities or use personal attributes to place people.
Is the team generator free?
Yes. No account, payment or advertising is required in this version.
