How to save, export and back up a wheel without losing your list

A wheel saved in your browser is convenient, but it is not a cloud backup. A few minutes of preparation can save you from rebuilding a class list or an event wheel.

Decide what you need to keep

For a reusable wheel, keep its entries, weights and images. For a spreadsheet, a plain list may be enough. For a record of a session, keep the results too. These are different exports: downloading the entry list does not automatically save your history.

Choose a format from Export

JSON retains supported wheel data, including entry images and weights, but the single-wheel export excludes result history. CSV contains names and weights and is useful for spreadsheets. TXT contains one label per line; reimporting it assigns equal weights. Neither CSV nor TXT preserves images. Global appearance and sound settings are not part of a single-wheel export.

Save history or several wheels

In Results, use Download history CSV before clearing the history. For several wheels on the same tool page, use Backup wheels. Its backup includes those wheels and their stored results. A workspace can hold up to eight wheels; it is not a backup of every tool page or your global settings.

Test the file before you need it

Keep the file in a folder you can find on the destination device. Import an individual wheel through Import and review the list before applying it. Load a workspace through Backup wheels on the same tool. Check the entry count, unusual characters, weights and images. Retain the original file until the imported wheel works.

Know what local storage cannot do

Clearing site data, using private browsing or switching browsers can make saved wheels unavailable. A share link is another kind of copy: its labels and weights are readable, and uploaded images and history are excluded. Use a JSON file for an image wheel and share it only with people allowed to see the contents.
